Mr. Ruiz's E.L.D. class, = El salon, de enseñanza de inglés, del maestro Ruiz, at the Forest Grove School District, in Forest Grove, Oregon.
I, Mr. Virgil Ruiz, have been teaching English as a Second Language, in the public schools, for over 20 years. My English classes are tailored for students doing the talking and for them to be having fun while they learn. I love teaching students! My passion is teaching students, & advocating for them.
I am happily married to Cindy Ruiz; she was a teacher before I became a school teacher. She helps me so much, and I love her so much. We have 2 sons, Daniel, 36, & Nathan, 34. Daniel was a missionary in Africa, & recently got married, to Ashlee, this summer in Salem, Oregon. Nathan was born in Berlin, Germany, & is a popular music D.J. nicknamed, "D.J.-Doogie", in Seattle, Washington.
I recently served on the ELPA 21 Content Committee. [ ELPA21 is a group of states designing and developing an assessment system for English language learners. The system is based on the new English Language Proficiency Standards and addresses the language demands needed to reach college and career readiness.] If you have any concerns, qualms, criticisms or comments, about the ELPA 21 test, now you know who to talk to. Just kidding ! :)
I graduated from Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California. Afterwards, I coached soccer in my spare time. 2 summers ago, I completed my Master of Science Degree, in Bilingual Special Education, at P.S.U., Portland State University. I currently volunteer to translate (from English to Spanish), the monthly lunch menus, for the 32 Senior Community Centers of the Meals-on-Wheels Program, in the Portland Metro Area.
I've also been a chess coach for the past 15 years, and would like to know what day in the afternoon, after school, would students in the Forest Grove School District & Banks School District, & home school movement, like to come to Joseph Gale Elementary School, for Chess Club activities. Healthy snacks and drinks for your chess club students, will be accepted with much appreciation.
